Nine people have been confirmed dead after a galamsey pit collapsed at Atta Ne Atta, a community in the Asutifi South District of the Ahafo Region.
Hospital authorities have clarified that one body previously counted among the deceased was not connected to the cave-in, reducing the confirmed fatalities from ten to nine.
Four injured miners are currently receiving treatment at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Hospital, Hwidiem, where medical personnel report that they are responding positively to care as of this morning.
An undisclosed number of miners are still thought to have been present at the site during the collapse. Rescue operations and evaluations are ongoing as authorities strive to determine the full extent of the incident and the cause of the cave-in.

Atta Ne Atta is located within the constituency of Collins Dauda. The community has previously attracted attention following a confrontation involving the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).
This recent tragedy highlights the ongoing dangers associated with illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as galamsey, and raises renewed concerns regarding safety enforcement and regulatory oversight in mining communities.
