4 soldiers arrested for attempting to enstool rival Chief at Awutu Senya

Tension is escalating in Awutu Kwashie Abbey, situated in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region, following the arrest of four military personnel and two national security operatives during an attempted installation of a new chief.

The Bawjiase District Police Command intervened after receiving reports that certain individuals were attempting to enstool a rival chief, despite the existence of an already recognised traditional ruler, Nai Kwashie Abbey VII.

The security officers were detained at the location, leading to a protest by supporters of the incumbent chief, who surrounded the police station, demanding the release of the detainees and threatening violence.

The situation remained precarious until a military vehicle with the registration number 52 GA 62 arrived, bringing additional personnel to ensure the release of the detained officers.

Members of the Asafo group loyal to Nai Kwashie Abbey VII have denounced the attempted installation, accusing state security agencies of meddling in local chieftaincy affairs.

Meanwhile, the leader of the group, Asafo Supi Nipa-Nka, is urging the military and national security to refrain from engaging in traditional disputes, cautioning that such involvement could incite unnecessary conflicts within the community.
