Authorities in the Asante Akyem North Municipality have arrested three Fulani herdsmen for allegedly driving their cattle into the area, destroying several farms.

The Asante Akyem North District Police Commander, DSP Edem Aklasu, confirmed the arrests.

He explained that municipal authorities had earlier warned herdsmen not to move their cattle into local communities because of repeated cases of crop destruction.

According to DSP Aklasu, farmers in the municipality have on several occasions complained that cattle belonging to the herdsmen stray onto their farms and damage their crops.

In some cases, he said, farmers who tried to challenge the herdsmen reported being intimidated.

He added that cattle movement has also polluted rivers and streams that residents rely on for drinking and other household needs.
