3 busted over stolen service pistol at Newmont Ahafo Mines
Three people have been arrested by the Fiapre Circuit Court regarding the theft of a service pistol at the Ahafo Newmont Mines Company located in Ntotroso, near Kenyase in the Ahafo Region.
As per a statement released by the Bono Regional Police Command, the incident took place on January 13, 2025, involving a Beretta service pistol with the registration number GHGP/NHQ/CTD/H78688Z13.
The suspects, Joseph Blackige, aged 25, Kwabena Dodzi, aged 44, and Adu Yeboah Abraham, also referred to as Okwaraji, aged 46, were apprehended on November 12, 2025, alongside an 18-year-old female, Priscilla Awuni.
According to police reports, an operation driven by intelligence from the National Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) resulted in the capture of Blackige and Awuni in Ntotroso. Although a search of Blackige’s residence yielded no evidence, he confessed during questioning that he had given the stolen firearm to Dodzi.
He subsequently guided the police to the home of suspect Adu Yeboah Abraham, where a search revealed six BB cartridges, suspected gunpowder, and cash amounting to GH¢28,844. These items were seized as evidence.
The suspects were later brought before the court on provisional charges of theft and possession of stolen goods. The court, under the authority of H/W Mrs. Akua Adoma Addae, granted police enquiry bail to Priscilla Awuni while further investigations are conducted.
The other three suspects remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in court again on November 28, 2025.
The statement was issued by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police Command.
