An 11-year-old deaf and dumb pupil, Richard Kweku Okyere, has died after drowning in a stream at Gomoa Potsin in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
Information gathered indicates that Richard went missing for a couple of hours and efforts to locate him were unsuccessful.
Later, his friends reported that he had drowned in the stream while they were swimming.
His body was later retrieved from the stream after the pouring of libations by the traditional leaders.
The boy with hearing and speech impairments was sent home by the management of his school, Cape Coast School for the Deaf, on the grounds of health issues and a detailed medical report on his health status was requested.
But just when his parents were preparing to send him back to school following the completion of the medical examination, the tragic incident occurred.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
Police have commenced an investigation into the matter.
