The headmistress of Wesley Grammar School, Mrs. Barbara Juliet Takyiwaa Thompson, has made a passionate appeal for urgent infrastructure development to improve teaching and learning conditions at the school.
She made this appeal while speaking at the school’s 70th anniversary celebration held on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Addressing a gathering of alumni, students, staff, and dignitaries, Mrs. Thompson outlined eight key areas requiring immediate attention to bring the school up to modern standards.
Central to her appeal was the construction of an ultramodern assembly hall to accommodate large gatherings and school events. She also stressed the need to complete the stalled GETFund block, which has remained unfinished for years, depriving students of much-needed classroom space.

The headmistress further advocated for the construction of a new administration block to enhance the efficiency of school operations, as well as the acquisition of a new school bus and an administrative vehicle to ease transportation challenges. According to her, these additions would significantly improve mobility for both students and staff.
Housing also featured prominently in her requests, as she called for the construction of a bungalow for staff to address accommodation issues. In addition, she highlighted the poor state of the school’s access roads, urging authorities to prioritise their rehabilitation to ensure safe and convenient movement within and around the campus.

Mrs. Thompson also raised concerns about the ageing electrical systems in the school, calling for a complete rewiring of buildings to prevent potential hazards. To accommodate the growing student population, she further proposed the construction of an additional dormitory block.
Beyond these requests, Mrs. Thompson made a broader appeal to the government to prioritise the school in future infrastructure allocations. She emphasised that investing in the development of Wesley Grammar School would not only preserve its legacy but also enhance the quality of education it delivers.

The 70th anniversary celebration, themed “Reminiscing 70 years of holistic Methodist education-The role of stakeholders in embracing new technology for the future”, served as both a moment of reflection and a call to action, with stakeholders hopeful that the concerns raised will receive the needed attention.
