We’re doing everything possible to win the Ejisu by-election – NPP MP
Kwadaso MP Kingsley Nyarko has said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is working hard to ensure the party wins the Ejisu by-election.
According to him, the party is leaving no stone unturned since the Ejisu constituency is a stronghold of the NPP.
“We are working so hard to win this election. Don’t forget that our main opponent was a member of the party and an MP for 12 years, so he has a footprint.
“That is why we are saying that we are doing everything possible to ensure that we win the elections. We will do everything appropriate to win it,” he said in an interview.
Meanwhile, shortly after the interview, the Kwadaso MP was captured on camera handing over an envelope suspected to contain cash to some Electoral Commission (EC) officials.
The alleged exchange occurred at the Fumesua Pentecost Church polling station during the ongoing Ejisu by-election.
The alleged video captures him dropping a white envelope on the table manned by the two EC officials.
Following the alleged bribery allegation, the Electoral Commission has withdrawn the two temporary staff involved in the bribery scandal as it commences investigations into the incident.
The commission warned that it would not countenance acts that cast a slur on the integrity of the institution and would not hesitate to sanction officials who violate its laws.
The Ejisu seat became vacant after the late lawmaker and deputy Finance Minister, Dr John Kumah, died after a short illness on March 7, 2024.
Six individuals are contesting the elections: NPP candidate Kwabena Boateng; Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a defected former NPP MP who is now running as an independent candidate; Esther Osei (CPP); Beatrice Boakye (LPG); Gabriel Agyemang Joseph (Independent); and Attakorah Joseph (Independent).
