We weren’t ready for GHALCA Top 4- Karim Zito after Kotoko clinch Super Cup title

Kumasi Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has blamed his club’s terrible run in the GHALCA Top 4 competition on the bad timing of the tournament.

He said this after leading Kotoko to beat Bibiani Gold Stars 1-0 at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani and clinch the Champion of  Champions Cup.

In the process, Kotoko got their revenge against Gold Stars after losing 2-1 to last season’s Ghana Premier League champions in the GHALCA Top 4; Kotoko ended the tournament without a win.

However, new signing Musa Hamzata’s tap in right on the goal line was enough to give Zito his second major trophy in his latest coaching stint with the club. Kotoko played the GHALCA Top 4 mere days after winning the Toyota Cup in South Africa and the President’s Cup.

“The GHALCA Top 4, the timing was bad…so I wasn’t expecting something too good from my boys.”

“The last match we played against Accra Hearts of Oak, the second half, you could see that my boys were now picking so we carried that [into this game]” Zito said to TV3.

Kotoko open the 2025-2026 Ghana League season against Berekum Chelsea on September 12.
