GNAT condemns violent attack on West Africa SHS teachers

The Madina-Adenta-Abokobi Secretariat of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has condemned a violent attack on teachers at West Africa Senior High School, calling the incident unacceptable and demanding swift justice.

The attack occurred on Friday, February 13, after some male students believed to be from Frafraha Community Senior High School were found in a classroom with female students, violating school rules against unauthorised visitors.

Teachers, led by Nicholas Teye, confronted the intruders, who initially resisted and verbally abused the staff. The group was eventually forced off campus.

Later that day, around 4:30 p.m., the group returned on motorbikes with armed accomplices and violently attacked the teachers using sticks and clubs.

Mr. Teye, reportedly the main target, sustained physical injuries and psychological trauma, though the staff managed to repel the attackers.

The incident has been reported to the Adenta Police, who have begun investigations and issued medical forms for Mr. Teye’s treatment.

GNAT is demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators and calls on the Ghana Education Service to investigate and discipline any students involved.

In protest, GNAT has directed teachers in the Madina-Adenta-Abokobi area to wear red armbands to school on Monday, February 16, 2026, to show solidarity and oppose violence against educators.

The association also urges community leaders to raise awareness on protecting teachers, warning that it remains on red alert and may take further action if justice is delayed.
