Viral child abuse video leads to arrest of two suspects in Agona Jamasi

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two individuals in connection with a viral video showing the physical abuse of a young girl in Agona Jamasi, Ashanti Region.

In a statement on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the arrests were made by the IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team after investigations quickly traced the incident to Agona Jamasi.

The first suspect, Grace Mensah, was apprehended following intelligence-led operations in the area.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Godfred Osei Akoto, the man seen in the video assaulting the child.

Preliminary findings indicate that on December 6, 2025, the 11-year-old victim reportedly went out and did not return home.

During police interrogation, Osei Akoto claimed he assaulted the girl with the permission of her grandmother.

The Police said the victim has since been rescued and is currently safe.

Both suspects have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) to assist with further investigations.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its firm commitment to protecting children and assured the public that it will deal decisively with all forms of abuse.
