UniMAC mourns tragic death of Level 300 Top-Up student

The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) is in mourning following the tragic death of Nelson Blay Nokotey, a Level 300 Top-Up Journalism student, who was fatally knocked down by a vehicle.

The University, in a statement dated January 22, 2026, assured its commitment to ensuring that the individual responsible for this incident is identified, arrested, and prosecuted in strict accordance with the law.

Management described the incident as a painful and untimely loss that has left the entire UniMAC community in shock and disbelief.

Management, on behalf of the Governing Council, faculty, staff, and students, expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones of the late Nokotey, emphasising that he was a valued and promising member of the institution.

“Vice-Chancellor Professor Eric Opoku Mensah, together with University officials, has met with the family of the deceased and separately engaged the Students’ Representative Council and the wider student body to commiserate with them,” the statement added.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated UniMAC’s solidarity and commitment to support the community during this challenging time.

Prof. Mensah further assured that the University, through its Dean of Students Affairs and Chief Security Officer, is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to assist with ongoing investigations.

He stressed that the institution is resolute in ensuring that the perpetrator of the incident is identified, apprehended, and prosecuted in strict accordance with the law.

The University further emphasised its dedication to justice, labelling the incident as a criminal act that must not go unpunished.
