Two Nigerian nationals, Yunus Ali, 47, and Salawudeen Abdul Hafeez, 42, have each been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment by the Damongo Circuit Court for offences related to identity fraud.

The court found them guilty of providing false information to the National Identification Authority (NIA), defrauding by false pretence, and possessing forged documents.

According to court proceedings, the two men submitted falsified personal details and forged documents in an attempt to acquire official Ghanaian identification credentials.

Their plan, however, was uncovered during routine verification procedures carried out by officials of the National Identification Authority.

Investigators say inconsistencies in their documents triggered further checks, which later confirmed that the information provided was false.

The forged materials were subsequently retrieved and tendered as evidence in court.
