The General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Titus Beyuo, has resigned.
He is eyeing lawmaking in addition to his white coat and the stethoscope that hangs around his neck.
The medical practitioner, on Wednesday, February 22, picked forms to contest for the Lambussie-Karni seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement, the medical practitioner said his decision to venture into politics had been influenced by his desire to improve the Lambussie Constituency.
According to him, the constituency is pregnant with many prospects and, therefore, the need for a “stronger representation on the national stage”.
However, he noted that the decision to switch from his professional practice to partisan politics was not easy.
Nonetheless, Dr Beyuo said the support of his family, close associates and other prominent people helped him to tow this path finally.
“Arriving at this decision was an uphill task, but the support and encouragement received from my family, traditional leaders in the Lambussie Traditional Council, party leadership at the National, Regional, Constituency and Branch Levels, and friends during the consultative process, made this less difficult,” he indicated.
He has, therefore, promised to help wrest power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and contribute to the developmental agenda of the next NDC government for the people of Ghana and Lambussie.
“I am fully persuaded that the social democratic governance of the NDC holds the key to alleviating extreme poverty, providing healthcare to all, restoration of the economy and above all, ensuring fairness and equity in the distribution of the national cake”.
Dr Beyuo used the opportunity to apologise to all those who may be disappointed with his decision to exit the GMA but expressed hope of them joining him on this journey.
“I count on the support of all to guarantee victory in the upcoming elections. It is my firm belief that the grace of God will abound to me as I make this switch from a professional and academic career into frontline politics. I need your prayers and continuous support,” he added.
