Three infants killed in Bibiani fire
Three children, under four years, have perished in a fire that razed their home in the Western Region.
The charred bodies of the little children were retrieved after personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) doused the flames.
They lived with their parents at Bibiani California in the Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality but their father was not home when the incident occurred.
Aged 11 months, two years and one who is getting to four years, they were with their mother, madam Monica, in the house when the fire started.
The woman left the children to call for help from neighbours after which she proceeded to the fire station in the town, Accra-based Starr FM reported.
The mother of three got the firemen to her home when the inferno has escalated. The firemen spent hours to quell the fire after which the woman disclosed that her children were still in the building.
Commander of the Fire Service at Bibiani, Mr Joseph Amehere, explained that a search led to the discovery of the charred bodies. They were later conveyed to the Bibiani government morgue.
Another fire officer who was part of the team explained: “At the time her husband was not there in the room so she was sleeping with these three children on the bed. But she went out to call her sister and then they started calling her husband to come and assist them to put out the fire. By the time the husband came, the fire had engulfed the whole place so the husband collapsed upon entry and they pulled him out that was the point we came in and put out the fire”.
He explained that the woman should have taken the children out the building at the first chance when the fire had not spread to the other parts of the building.
