Three dead and dozens injured in Mampong Abuontem crash

A devastating road crash at Mampong Abuontem has left three people dead and thirty others injured, sending shock and grief through the community.

The collision happened on Thursday, December 4, 2025, when a Toyota Coaster minibus from the Ejura Agric College and an Opel Astra collided head-on.

Eyewitnesses say the Opel Astra lost control on a curve and veered into the path of the oncoming minibus. The impact was severe. The smaller vehicle was mangled beyond recognition, while the minibus suffered serious damage to its front section, including the windscreen and bumper.

The Mampong Fire Station received an emergency alert at 5:38 pm, and a rescue team led by LFM Emmanuel Kwami rushed to the scene.

By the time they arrived, ambulances had already transported the injured, including twenty-six students, three staff members and the bus driver.

Tragically, two passengers from the Opel Astra died shortly after the rescue attempt, while the driver was found deceased and handed over to the police.

Hospital officials say twenty-six of the victims have since been treated and discharged. Four others remain in critical condition at the Mampong Government Hospital, where medical teams are working to stabilise them.

Emergency workers later cleared the wreckage to improve the flow of traffic on the busy stretch. A member of the rescue team described the scene as heartbreaking.

“It was one of the most difficult crash scenes we have attended, and we urge drivers to be extra cautious on the road,” he said.

Authorities are once again reminding motorists to maintain their vehicles, avoid unnecessary risks on curves and prioritise safety to prevent similar tragedies.
