The Bantama Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Fiifi Mensah, has officially expressed his support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s upcoming flagbearer election.
According to Mr. Mensah, he has already made his position clear to party members in his constituency, indicating that his choice does not translate into hostility towards other aspirants.
“In my constituency, I have told everyone that if we truly want the betterment of the party, we must work together,” he said.
“In elections, you cannot intimidate anyone. The decision ultimately lies between the voter and the ballot paper”.
Mr. Mensah stated that while constituency and regional executives may have individual preferences, all aspirants will be given an equal opportunity to campaign in Bantama.
“All the chairpersons know who they are supporting, but on 31st December we will all find out who wins the flagbearer race, and once the winner emerges, we will rally behind that person,” he stated.
He emphasised that endorsing Dr. Bawumia does not mean he will undermine or speak against other candidates.
“My support for Dr. Bawumia does not give me the right to hinder anyone’s campaign. We allow every candidate who comes to Bantama to engage delegates freely. I am not a pretender. My party members in Bantama know exactly where I stand,” he noted.
Chairman Mensah further urged party faithful to respect differing views within the party, adding that unity after the election is non-negotiable.
“Having divergent views does not mean we should fight each other. At the end of the day, whoever wins becomes the candidate we will all support for the 2028 presidential election,” he added.
