Three persons have been arrested in the Wa West District after being discovered, each armed with a single-barrelled gun and a cutlass, thus presenting a potential danger to public safety.
The suspects were taken into custody during a routine patrol conducted by officers of the Ghana Police Service at Goziri, a locality near Vieri, on Monday, 3 February 2026.
According to the police, the patrol team encountered approximately five men openly displaying weapons in the vicinity.
Upon noticing the police vehicle, the men attempted to escape; however, three of them were arrested following a brief chase.
They were identified as Yahaya Samata, 27; Adams Alhassan, 37; and Yiritang Boosi, 35.
A search carried out at the location resulted in the recovery of three single-barrel guns, three cutlasses, and twenty-three BB cartridges. During questioning, the suspects confessed that they lacked licenses to possess the firearms and ammunition.
They were subsequently brought before the Wa Magistrate Court, overseen by His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako, and remanded into custody.
The court instructed them to return on 18 February 2026, while police continue their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects who managed to escape.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has warned the public, particularly those in possession of unlicensed firearms, to regularise their documentation or surrender the weapons in accordance with existing regulations.
The Command reiterated its dedication to upholding peace and security and encouraged residents to assist law enforcement through cooperation and the sharing of information.
