Police have shot and killed a suspected robber, Clement Kofi Aidoo, during an operation at Danso near Bawjiase in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region.
According to a police brief issued on Wednesday, Aidoo, also known as Yaw Paddy and Joseph Abequaye, was shot after he allegedly jumped through a window armed with a cutlass and attempted to attack officers.
He was taken to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
His body has been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The incident follows a petition filed on January 30, 2026, by 77-year-old Christiana Frimpong to the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, over a robbery at her Labone residence in Accra.
She reported that on December 4, 2025, armed men attacked her, tied her up, covered her face with a plastic bag, and stole her Toyota Hilux (GW 9834-25), an iPhone 16 Pro Max and other personal belongings.
After days of intelligence gathering, a police team led by ASP James Atampuri tracked Aidoo to Danso in the early hours of February 6, 2026, where the confrontation occurred.
Investigations also linked the suspect to another case involving General Sergeant Daniel Kusi Appiah of the Kaneshie Divisional Headquarters.
The officer reported that Aidoo, whom he had hired in November 2025 through KKN Domestic and Recruitment Agency in Bubuashie as a house help for his father, later fled with his Toyota Camry (GC 123-12), GH¢12,200 in cash, and his Police and Voter ID cards.
Police retrieved the stolen Toyota Hilux, Madam Frimpong’s mobile phone, several documents, and the ID cards, which are being kept as exhibits.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect’s real name was Joseph Obessi, a native of Bontroase in the Central Region.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
