Suspect arrested in connection with Nsawam-Adoagyiri unrest

Police in the Eastern Region have arrested a man believed to be linked to recent unrest in Nsawam-Adoagyiri.

The suspect, Abdul Rauf Salami, was taken into custody on Thursday night, May 23, during a late-night operation by the Eastern South Regional Police Command.

According to police, Salami was found with two pump-action guns, 64 rounds of ammunition, a cutlass, a knife, and an ammunition vest.

He was arrested in Adoagyiri Zongo around 9:30 pm as part of a wider crackdown following a series of violent incidents between local youth groups.

The operation focused on securing all key entry and exit routes in and around Adoagyiri to prevent further escalation.

ASP Foster Owusu, head of the Public Affairs Unit, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

He said the suspect is currently in police custody and is cooperating with investigators.

“We are committed to keeping Adoagyiri safe for everyone. We urge residents to support us by reporting anything unusual to the nearest police station,” said ASP Owusu.

Salami is expected to be arraigned in court soon as investigations continue.

Authorities say more updates will be provided in due course.

The police have reiterated their commitment to restoring peace in the area and are calling on the public to remain calm and vigilant.
