The Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) has invited Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, former Environment Minister, to assist with an investigation into illegal mining activities in the country.

The Professor had authored a controversial report on the issue, which alleged corruption and corruption-related offences in relation to the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).

The recently leaked report names top government officials supposedly involved in the activity.

There was also an allegation that a garden in President Akufo-Addo’s Kyebi home was affected by illegal mining which took the Minister’s intervention to halt.

The OSP is now seeking his assistance to investigate the said claims.

The former minister expressed his willingness to support the investigation, saying: “I have formally communicated my willingness to attend the invitation and to support the OSP in its work.”

The investigation into the allegations of corruption and misconduct among government officials is expected to continue, with Frimpong-Boateng’s assistance.
