Security services recruitment pushed to Nov 17

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has announced that the nationwide recruitment for security services has been postponed.

The exercise, originally scheduled to start on Saturday, November 15, will now begin on Monday, November 17.

The announcement, made on Friday, November 14, comes in the wake of the tragic incident at El Wak Sports Stadium during the military recruitment process.

Minister Mubarak said the recruitment for the Police, Immigration, and Prisons Services will resume on Monday.

An updated schedule will be made available through national newspapers, official social media channels, and relevant ministries and agencies.

“The advertisement indicated that application forms would be available on November 15, 2025. However, in light of the unfortunate incident that occurred on Wednesday during the Armed Forces recruitment process, the Ministry of the Interior, in consultation with Security Chiefs, has decided to postpone the start date of applications from November 15 to Monday, November 17, 2025, as a mark of respect to the bereaved families and those who were injured.”

He said, “It will be published in the national dailies, on the Ministry and its Agencies’ website, and on social media platforms.”

He explained that applicants can purchase vouchers either from any GCB Bank branch nationwide or via a USSD code from home, adding that the publication will provide the web address and short code details, and that the new, robust centralised e-recruitment portal is designed to harmonise and standardise recruitment across all Interior Ministry agencies.

“There are two major channels to purchase application vouchers. From any GCB Bank Branch Nationwide. At the comfort of your home via USSD dial code. The details of the web address and the USSD short code details will be in the publication. The system we are deploying is a robust centralised E-Recruitment Portal, an initiative implemented to ensure harmonisation and standardisation of the conduct of recruitment across the various agencies under the Ministry of the Interior,” he said.

A total of 28 applicants were affected in the El Wak incident, with 12 in critical condition, five receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit, and six confirmed dead. A separate recruitment exercise in Kumasi also recorded five injuries.

The Ministry has assured the public that additional safety measures will be implemented to prevent any further incidents as investigations into the tragedy continue.
