Ghanaian dancehall star Samini says he will not join X Spaces or TikTok Live simply to entertain online audiences, insisting that any interaction with fans on such platforms must serve a meaningful purpose.
The award-winning musician made the remarks at the launch of Samini Xperience 2026, Dansoman Edition, on Friday, October 16, as he prepares to bring the concert to the Accra suburb during the festive season.
Samini said the changing nature of celebrity-fan relationships on social media had made him cautious about engaging directly with online audiences, particularly when such interactions could expose him to disrespect.
He explained that, unlike in the past when fans often had to attend concerts to see their favourite musicians perform, social media had made celebrities more accessible, allowing people to contact and criticise them from behind their phones.
According to him, this easy access has encouraged some people to believe they can address established artistes in ways they might not attempt in person.
The musician said he was therefore unwilling to join online discussions merely to give people an opportunity to provoke or disrespect him.
However, Samini clarified that he was not ruling out the platforms entirely. He said he could consider participating in X Spaces or TikTok Live if the engagement offered genuine professional value or contributed meaningfully to his work.
He added that such appearances would be approached selectively, with his team expected to assess the people involved and the value they could bring to the conversation or project.
The comments come as Samini prepares for the Dansoman edition of Samini Xperience 2026, which is expected to form part of his festive-season activities.
