Rooney accuses players of being selfish and shifting blame

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has criticised players who openly express frustrations in media interviews, accusing some of avoiding responsibility for their performances on the pitch.

Rooney made the comments while discussing remarks by Bruno Fernandes, although he acknowledged that there could be differing opinions on whether the Manchester United captain was right or wrong in what he said.

The former England captain insisted that players must be willing to accept responsibility for their actions and work collectively to address problems within their teams.

“We can debate whether Bruno was right or wrong in what he said, but you have to take responsibility on the pitch. You have to take responsibility as a group of players,” Rooney said.

He also accused some footballers of putting their personal interests ahead of the team, arguing that their comments can unfairly shift attention away from their own performances.

“These players are selfish. They don’t care about their teammates, the coach, the staff, or the fans, they only care about themselves,” he added.

Rooney further criticised players who publicly blame others for their teams’ struggles, saying they should demonstrate greater accountability rather than direct criticism towards coaches, teammates or club staff.

“They behave like babies and shift the blame onto anyone but themselves,” he said.
