Romero on ‘another stupid goal’ and ‘seven finals’

Captain Cristian Romero slammed “another stupid goal” conceded by Tottenham as he reacted to a damaging 3-0 loss at home to Nottingham Forest.

The defeat dropped Spurs to 17th in the Premier League table and leaves them one point above the relegation zone.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Romero referenced the second goal scored by Forest when Morgan Gibbs-White found himself unmarked in the box and saw his shot go in off goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Romero was seen remonstrating with Mathys Tel in the aftermath, seemingly critical of the winger for leaving Gibbs-White in space, although Pape Sarr also ran off the Forest player.

“This season is tough, especially in this moment. Another day bad for us, another game lost at home,” said Romero.

“The first thing to the fans is thank you for today and also for every day, staying with us.

“The most important thing for us is to play like a final now. It’s very tough, it’s a bad season.

“For me, it’s the first responsibility and this is the life. Sometimes football is like this.

“The first half was good but in the second half, we lose the confidence, lose the ball, conceded another stupid goal. This is difficult, but now it’s finished.

“It’s painful, it’s a bad day but the most important thing is to go away to national teams, come back here and have seven finals.”
