Security analyst Dr. Ishmael Norman has called for renewed efforts to strengthen national morality, citing the rising number of dysfunctional families and divorces as a growing concern in society.

He said declining moral values and increasing disrespect within relationships were contributing to the breakdown of many marriages.

Speaking in an interview, Dr. Norman said the trend of family instability was becoming increasingly worrying.

“There’s one thing that is looming. The increasing uptick of dysfunctional families and divorces is getting a bit too much. Morality is going down every day. We need to reposition the national morality in the centre of our activities,” he said.

Dr Norman noted that although churches were making efforts to address moral issues, their impact appeared limited as many people increasingly relied on social media for advice on relationships and family matters.

“I think the churches are doing the best they can, but it looks like they are not imparting moral knowledge to the congregants. People are now subjecting themselves to social media advice and speaking to their wives and husbands in very rough ways. There is a lot of disrespect, and many marriages are breaking down,” he stated.

He called on the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to intensify public education and awareness campaigns to encourage families to remain united.

Dr Norman stressed that promoting strong family values should be prioritised as part of efforts to rebuild moral standards in the country.

“I hope that the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection will begin awareness creation by advising families to stay together,” he urged.
