The law enforcement agency has charged all married women not to hesitate to report their husbands who refuse to eat at home and report home very late without any tangible reason.
The police indicate that these acts often make women unhappy, leading to emotional abuse charges under Ghana’s Domestic Violence Act 732 of 2007.
Speaking on this controversial issue, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dennis Fiakpui stressed that such behaviour can cause emotional pain and is punishable by law.
“If your husband refuses to eat your food and makes you unhappy and causes you emotional pain, you can also report it to the police, and if your husband comes home late and causes you to be unhappy, you can make a case at DOVSSU,” ACP Fiakpui stated.

The law applies equally to men and women, with both spouses entitled to protection from emotional abuse.
Women who refuse their husbands’ sex can also be charged with emotional abuse and face up to two years’ imprisonment if convicted.
The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVSSU) encourages women to report such incidents, emphasising that emotional abuse can arise from various actions within marriage.
