Purchase enough credit -ECG tells CLOU customers as it embarks on maintenance works
The Electricity Company of Ghana has urged all CLOU customers to buy enough credit as the company intends to undertake emergency maintenance works on the CLOU Prepayment Metering System’s server.
ECG stated on Tuesday, January 24, that the maintenance work would commence at midnight on Thursday, January 25 to Friday, January 26, 2024, at 10:00 am.
The CLOU customers are those who use remote to operate their prepaid meters.
Areas such as Korle-Bu District, Ablekuma District, Nsawam District, Amasaman District, Bortianor District, Tema North and South Districts, Ashaiman District, Krobo District, Nungua District, Afienya District, Koforidua District and Kibi District are expected to be affected during the operation.
The statement added that “The inconvenience caused to affected customers is deeply regretted”.

ECG has also informed the general public that the Value Added Tax(VAT) on residential electricity consumption above the lifeline category has not been implemented.
The company in a statement dated January 22, 2024, admonished all stakeholders to comply with the previous payment model.
The yet-to-be-implemented VAT on electricity consumption according to the government would be used to clear off debts owed to independent power producers.
It will be recalled that the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta in a letter dated January 1, instructed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) to apply a VAT to residential customers exceeding the maximum consumption level for lifeline units.
The controversial 15 percent VAT imposed on electricity consumption is one of the government’s COVID-19 recovery programs aimed at generating revenue for the state.
