Asante Kotoko and Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum have officially parted ways, marking the end of an emotional and dramatic chapter in the history of one of Ghana’s most iconic football clubs.
Ogum, highly regarded for his strategic insights and composed demeanour, leaves the club at a challenging time as the Porcupine Warriors have struggled in the Ghana Premier League.
His departure follows a series of disappointing performances, including consecutive losses to Accra Lions and Nations FC, which have severely threatened the club’s title hopes.
Despite these recent setbacks, Ogum’s legacy remains strong. He led Kotoko to a traditional league victory in the 2021/22 season during his first tenure, a campaign that rekindled memories of the club’s golden years and instilled optimism in the fans for a brighter future.
His return in 2024 was met with enthusiasm, but issues both on and off the pitch prevented the team from reaching those previous heights.
This season, Kotoko played 28 league games, achieving 13 wins, 8 draws, and 7 losses. Ultimately, inconsistency took its toll, prompting the Interim Management Committee (IMC) to seek a change ahead of the critical MTN FA Cup semi-final against Berekum Chelsea.
Ogum’s departure evokes mixed emotions. Although recent performances frustrated the dedicated Red Army supporters, his contributions to player development, discipline, and club structure are undeniable.
