A private developer, identified as Agya Osei, on Monday, December 4, allegedly blocked a section of the Kejetia market in the Ashanti Region, leading to the displacement of scores of traders.
The private developer, according to some of the traders, is being supported by one Albert, a former staff member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
Mr. Agya Osei, in an interview, revealed that he secured the land from the Ghana Railway Authority.
However, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly claims the developer has no license to develop the area.
“This is so painful. With a few days to Christmas, how do you expect my family to survive?” An affected trader queried in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report with Akoma FM.
Another interviewee claimed his brother, who serves as private security for some of the traders at the market, has gone missing since the private developer allegedly stormed the market with some land guards.
“I can’t find my brother; since the land guards arrived, I don’t know whether he is still alive. We have informed the police”.
Some of the warehouses belonging to the traders were also destroyed by the land guards.
The police have yet to probe the incident.
