The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the destruction of a structure at Pusiga in the Upper East Region.
A statement by the police said the structure was destroyed by some youth on Saturday, June 22, 2024, following a disturbance.
The statement added that contrary to claims in a circulating video, the youth’s action was not due to a political clash.
“It was as a result of a misunderstanding between the youth and some elders of the community.
“The police would, therefore, like to caution the public against disinformation, which has the tendency to cause fear and panic,” the police said.
Meanwhile, the police said they are working with all stakeholders in the Pusiga to get the matter resolved while efforts were ongoing to get the perpetrators behind the destruction and the disinformation arrested to face justice.
The sad incidents were recorded on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
According to the police, the two incidents occurred at the Wa East Education Service office and the Wa Model JHS School.
While details of the incidents are yet to be disclosed, the police have assured residents of the area to remain calm as they work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic events.
“We would like to assure the public, especially the residents of Wa, to remain calm as the Police work to get those involved arrested to face justice,” the Ghana Police Service said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Upper West Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, who visited one of the crime scenes, said one of the deceased was hit with a stone which rendered him unconscious before the culprits slit his throat.
