Old students of OLA Senior High School (SHS), Ho, have set an ambitious target to refurbish and modernise the school to deliver world-class education.

Having identified the need for infrastructure improvement and more resources for the holistic training of young girls, the Past OLA Girls’ Association (POGA) has unveiled plans to build a 700-bed multi-purpose dormitory and an ultramodern ICT Centre for the school, among others.

The dormitory complex is expected to have a senior housemistress flat, infirmary, shops and other facilities.

Delivering the keynote speech at the event, retired Supreme Court Judge Mrs Agnes Dordzie, an old student, praised school authorities for churning out girls to be noble women in society.

She highlighted the importance of maintaining the high standards OLA has been known for and encouraged young ones to embrace the training wholeheartedly.

She acknowledged the contribution of early missionaries to the human resource development of the country as they prioritised education.

Executive Director of the National Population Council, Dr Leticia Adelaide Appiah, an old student who chaired the programme, was optimistic about a successful anniversary and called on all old girls of OLA to unite and revamp the school.

The ceremony was used to unveil their 70th-anniversary logo, paraphernalia and POGA cloth.

Present was the founder and Executive Chairman of McDan Group of Companies, Dr Daniel Nii Nshia McKorley, who highlighted the need to produce more women entrepreneurs due to their significant contributions to the economy.

Meanwhile, a member of the publicity committee of POGA, Lucy A.N. Dzata, has explained that every old student must contribute at least GH₵ 100 to help achieve the anniversary objectives.

She said several events are lined up throughout the year, including a dinner and fundraising night to mobilise resources for the construction of the facilities listed in their plan.

She was not short of highlighting some successes chalked up by the school over the year.

“We have maintained our status as a Class A school. We regularly appear at the national science and maths quiz competition, and the school has produced prominent individuals making a tremendous impact in society,” she stated.

“Girls coming from OLA are disciplined due to the rigorous holistic Catholic training provided in the school”.
