Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee Resumes Probe Into IGP Leaked Tape

Source The Ghana Report

Parliament’s ad hoc committee tasked to investigate the authenticity of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) leaked audio tape is expected to reconvene on Tuesday, October 10.

The next session, which will be conducted in-camera, is scheduled to span five days, running from Tuesday, October 10 to Saturday, October 15.

It will be recalled that three police officers – COP George Alex Mensah, George Asare, and Emmanuel Gyebi, both superintendents, together with Daniel Bugri Naabu, a former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), were captured in a conversation ostensibly plotting to remove the current IGP before the 2024 general elections.

While Daniel Bugri Naabu confirmed the tape’s contents, COP Alex Mensah and Superintendent George Asare denied the accuracy of the recording, alleging that portions had been “edited.”

COP Mensah contended that the tape had been doctored and did not reflect the original conversation with former NPP Northern Regional Chairman Bugri Naabu.

Additionally, he claimed that IGP George Akuffo Dampare had political affiliations with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), a claim the IGP has described as baseless.

So far, all interested parties have appeared before the committee.

During the last hearing, retired COP Mensah informed the committee of two witnesses prepared to corroborate his assertions regarding the leaked tape.

The committee will hear from these witnesses, followed by cross-examination.

Afterward, interested parties will submit their respective evidence for consideration.
