Okoe-Boye quits MP race to focus on chairmanship position
Former Member of Parliament for the Ledzokuku constituency, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, has announced his intention to contest as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), rather than contesting as an MP in the 2028 parliamentary election.
The former legislator, in an interview, revealed that while he no longer plans to contest for the parliamentary seat in his constituency, his commitment to the constituency and the party remains unwavering.
“I won’t do politics at Teshie again, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have the constituency at heart. I’ve been an MP before; I won the seat in opposition and lost it in government. That journey taught me valuable lessons. Now, I want to channel what I’ve learned at a higher level,” he said.
He further stated that he is now consulting with party elders and stakeholders over the possibility of vying for the Greater Accra Regional Chairman role.
He said the move is to help the party reclaim lost parliamentary seats and strengthen its hold in the Greater Accra Region.
“We lost woefully in Greater Accra during the last elections, and if there’s going to be a turnaround, it must start from here. Accra is the heart of the laws, and the party’s redemption must begin here. If strong leadership works in Greater Accra, that same spirit can be injected into other regions,” he noted on AsaasePa Radio.
