‘Okada’ riders die in a head-on collision at Wantakra

Two commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as ‘okada’ riders, have unfortunately lost their lives in a head-on collision at Wantakra, a community near Wassa Senchem in the Wassa East District.

The deceased persons have been identified as Seth Arthur, an ‘okada’ rider, and Gordon Agbemenye, an apprentice who was on his way to meet his master at Senchem with a motorbike popularly known as ‘okada’. Both died instantly in the collision.

A third victim, a pillion passenger, survived the crash but sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Church of Christ Christian Hospital in Wassa Ateiku.

This sad incident was confirmed by the Assembly Member for the area, Alhassan Ibrahim Braima.

Alhasan Ibrahim Braima, speaking on the incident, described it as terrifying.

“The accident occurred at a sharp curve as one of the riders was coming from Brofoyedu, while the other was from Senchem ,the rider from Senchem, who was speeding and veered off his lane while negotiating the curve and collided head-on with the other motorcyclist”.

He added that “the impact of the crash killed both riders instantly, leaving their motorbikes badly mangled”.
