Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has signalled confidence in the New Patriotic Party’s future, telling the National Democratic Congress to expect a strong challenge in the 2028 general elections.

His comments come in the wake of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s decisive victory in the NPP presidential primary, a result that party leaders say has renewed unity and momentum.

Dr. Bawumia secured the flagbearer slot with 56.48 per cent of the total votes cast, a clear margin that settled the contest early and rallied supporters behind a single candidate.

His closest rival, former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong, finished second with 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 per cent. Party officials described the outcome as orderly and reflective of the delegates’ confidence in the former vice president’s leadership.

Speaking to journalists at the party’s national headquarters on Saturday night, January 31, 2026, Dr. Amin Adam said the primary had strengthened internal cohesion and provided a clear direction for the next phase of political work.

He noted that the coming years would be used to reconnect with voters, sharpen policy messages, and rebuild structures across the country ahead of the next national polls.

He struck a confident tone about the party’s readiness, framing the result as a starting point rather than a finish line.

“The overwhelming support shown by the delegates is a testament to the party’s readiness and willingness to support Dr. Bawumia’s leadership. You will see in the days ahead that this party is solid, and we have three years to put our acts together and face our opponents. The NDC should beware. We are coming, and we are coming gallantly,” he said.

Party supporters at the headquarters welcomed the message, seeing it as a call for unity and sustained engagement as the NPP prepares for the road to 2028.
