The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members in the Akwatia Constituency will elect their constituency executives today, Saturday, February 11.
The election is expected to commence at 9:30 am at the Akwatia GCD Walker Club Park.
A statement issued by the regional leadership of the party said, “25 people successfully went through the processes to contest for the various positions; however, two of them, namely Ali Abubakar (1st Vice Chairman aspirant) and Vivian Afflu (Women’s Organizer aspirant), have stepped down from the race leaving 23 persons.”
The elections will be conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana and in conformity with the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and, by extension, the laws of Ghana.
The upcoming election is in line with a Koforidua High Court ruling that directed the party to hold fresh elections after some party sympathizers expressed displeasure about how the constituency elections were held last year [2022].
