NPP sets November 3 for ‘Y3gye y3 sika’ protest

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to hold a nationwide demonstration on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to demand the removal of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and investigations into issues surrounding a recent evacuation exercise and the issuance of diplomatic and service passports.

The demonstration, which is called “Y3gye y3 sika”, is aimed at demanding greater accountability from the government over money spent on the evacuation exercise and the issuance of diplomatic and service passports.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 29, the NPP’s National Youth Organiser, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu, urged party members and other Ghanaians to join the protest.

“The public money belongs to the people, so do the official documents of the Republic. The ministers hold them in trust, and when the trust is abused, it is the people who must rise and demand accountability,” he said.

The NPP has accused Mr Ablakwa of wrongdoing in connection with the issues. However, the claims have not been established and require proper investigations.

Mr Yakubu said the demonstrators would gather at 6:00 a.m. at Villaggio, near the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange and opposite Accra Mall.

The protest will move from there to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before ending at Jubilee House, where the government operates.

He called on the party’s youth organisers, constituency and polling station executives, women’s groups and other supporters to help mobilise people for the demonstration.

Mr Yakubu also urged participants to remain peaceful, disciplined and law-abiding throughout the protest.

“Our strength is in our numbers and our discipline, never in disorder,” he said.

He added that the party would continue to demand answers from the government until the issues were properly addressed.

Among the NPP’s main demands is the immediate removal of Mr Ablakwa as Foreign Affairs Minister.

The party is also calling for investigations by the Attorney-General and the Office of the Special Prosecutor. It wants the minister and any other officials found guilty of wrongdoing to face prosecution.

NPP demands details of evacuation spending
Regarding the evacuation exercise, the NPP wants the government to release the original invoices, contracts and proof of payment for all chartered flights used during the operation.

The party is also demanding the full list of passengers and beneficiaries to confirm the reported evacuation of 1,964 Ghanaians. In addition, it wants an independent audit of the total amount spent on the exercise.

On the issuance of diplomatic and service passports, the NPP wants the government to publish details of all such passports issued since January 2025.

The information, according to the party, should include the official position or status that qualified each person to receive a passport and the authority that approved its issuance.

The party is also calling for the cancellation of any passports found to have been issued improperly.

The planned demonstration adds to the NPP’s criticism of Mr Ablakwa over the evacuation costs and concerns about the issuance of diplomatic and service passports.

The party has also demanded the resignation of the Minister for Youth and Sports over a separate visa controversy. The issue came before the resignation of the National Sports Authority’s chief executive.

The NPP’s demonstration is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
