The Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northampton Chapter in the United Kingdom, Vivian Foss, has dismissed claims that the party’s decision to disallow proxy voting in the upcoming presidential primaries has disenfranchised supporters.
Her comments follow criticisms from a member of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team and Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, who described the decision by the Presidential Elections Committee as impractical, arguing that it has sidelined hundreds of diaspora supporters of Dr Bawumia.
Speaking to Citi TV on the sidelines of the Dr. Bryan Acheampong campaign in Ejisu, in the Ashanti region, on Saturday, January 24, Vivian Foss said the party’s decision was taken after extensive consultations and must be respected by all members.
“I think when this came up, decisions and meetings took place, and then we had to follow the policy of the party. The final decision of the party is what we follow. Opinions are divided. Some were thinking we should do proxy, some were also thinking we should all come over to vote.
“I have come all the way from the United Kingdom to come and vote, and others are also coming. I’m the vice chair of the Northampton chapter, so I don’t think that has disenfranchised anybody. We are all coming to vote,” she said
