NPP outlines guidelines on parliamentary primaries

The governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) has released the guidelines for the upcoming parliamentary primaries in constituencies with incumbent legislators.

The party, in a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, highlighted that nominations will open on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 and close on Monday, December 25, 2023.

The election committee emphasized that no aspiring parliamentary candidate would be denied access to the nomination forms.

“An aspiring parliamentary candidate denied access to the nomination forms at the constituency shall purchase same at Regional Secretariat and if denied, same may be downloaded from the party’s website (www.newpatrioticparty.org)”.

“Forms printed from the party’s website shall be submitted to the General Secretary at the National Secretariat of the party”.

“Aspiring parliamentary candidates, who downloaded nomination forms from the party’s website shall, on submission, show proof that they were denied an opportunity to purchase the forms at both the constituency and regional levels”.

Nomination forms will be available for purchase for three thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵3,000).

Aspirants shall pay a non-refundable filing fee of thirty-five thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵35,000).

However, women, persons with disability and youth between the ages of 18 to 40 will be granted a fifty per cent (50%) rebate on the filing fee.

The Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference, according to the party executives, will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

The leadership of the party reiterated its commitment to the free, fair and transparent parliamentary primary election and requested the support of all stakeholders.
