No ‘dumsor’ timetable needed in Ashanti Region — ECG

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has ruled out releasing a load-shedding timetable for the Ashanti Region, despite growing calls from residents following intermittent power outages in parts of the region.

The outages have disrupted business operations, forcing operators of mobile money outlets, pharmacies and cold stores to depend on generators to keep their businesses running.

Residents have also raised concerns about the reliability of electricity supply, as occasional power interruptions continue to affect communities without prior notice.

ECG’s Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Obeng Antwi, attributed the disruptions to unexpected faults and maintenance works, explaining that the situation did not justify the introduction of a load-shedding schedule.

He acknowledged the frustration among customers but noted that outages resulting from unforeseen faults could not always be communicated in advance.

“We want our customers to know that, yes, to them, it is an outage, and we share their sentiment. But they must also understand that sometimes we can only inform them after the outage has occurred because it is a fault, not planned work.”

“There is no cause for a ‘dumsor’ timetable. We are not in load management or in crisis in the region,” he said.

Obeng Antwi further explained that ECG could not predict when faults would occur, making it impossible to schedule such interruptions in advance.

He added that the company had issued statements to clarify the causes of the disruptions.

He assured customers that ECG would continue to provide advance notice whenever planned maintenance works or other projects were expected to disrupt electricity supply.
