A physically challenged man has been arrested after customs officials reportedly found 1,590 ecstasy pills hidden within his prosthetic leg during a routine operation at Karang.
The seizure occurred around 2:00 a.m. on July 12, 2026, by the Commercial Customs Brigade of Karang.
According to a report from the Gambia Youth and Women’s Forum, the individual was travelling on a public transport vehicle from a neighbouring country when officers intercepted him and performed a search.
During the examination, officials found that the ecstasy pills had been meticulously concealed inside the man’s prosthetic leg, which authorities characterised as an unusually sophisticated smuggling technique.
Customs officials stated that the seizure highlights the increasingly intricate strategies being utilised by criminal organisations to transport illegal drugs across borders.
The suspect has been taken into custody and is anticipated to be brought before the High Court to face legal proceedings.
Authorities indicate that investigations are ongoing to determine the complete circumstances surrounding the attempted drug trafficking operation and to identify any other individuals associated with the case.
