The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has released new reopening dates for the 2026/2027 academic year following an earlier postponement.
According to an official notice issued by the Office of the Registrar on Wednesday, October 14, fresh students are expected to arrive on Thursday, October 15, while returning students are scheduled to report on Saturday, October 17.
The university had earlier suspended the reopening indefinitely in response to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
The academic year was originally scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. However, the strike and its effects on the institution’s administrative operations prompted management to put the reopening on hold.
The university said the revised schedule was approved following an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Under the new arrangements, lectures for both newly admitted and continuing students will commence on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The notice, designated Official Notice No. 4/26, called on students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the updated schedule.
Management also thanked the university community and other stakeholders for their patience, understanding and cooperation during the period of uncertainty.
