Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has criticised the government over its decision to fix the new cocoa producer price at GH¢2,650 per 64-kilogramme bag, insisting that farmers deserve better returns.
In a post on X reacting to the announcement, the MP expressed disappointment with the new price and questioned the government’s approach to cocoa pricing.
“Cocoa new farm gate price: GH¢2650!!. Now, the ‘scales’ of deception have been removed. This govt. will contend with us & our cocoa farmers once more!” he wrote.
Mr Annoh-Dompreh also accused the government of acting with what he described as “impunity”, arguing that the challenges confronting farmers are not limited to the cocoa sector.
He noted that producers of other major food crops, including rice, maize and yam, are also grappling with difficulties and need policies that adequately address their concerns.
The Minority Caucus has maintained that farmers across the country deserve improved returns on their produce, transparent agricultural pricing policies and measures to safeguard their livelihoods.
“Our farmers deserve better,” the Caucus said.
