NE/R: Police probe deadly attack on Immigration Officers at Gbintri checkpoint

The North East Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the deadly armed attack on two Ghana Immigration Service officers stationed at the Gbintiri Inland Checkpoint near Nalerigu in the North East Region.

According to a police press release issued on Friday, October 3, 2025, the attack occurred around 1:00 a.m., when unknown gunmen opened fire on the officers at their duty post.

Both officers sustained gunshot wounds in the attack. Tragically, one officer died from his injuries, while the second was rushed to the hospital and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The assailants reportedly stole a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers before fleeing the scene. However, a service rifle used by the Immigration personnel was recovered by the police at the checkpoint.

In a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Robert Anabiik Anmain, the police assured the public that a full-scale manhunt is underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The Command wishes to assure the public that there is a manhunt for the perpetrators of this heinous crime to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement read.

The Police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying and arresting the attackers.

“We hereby appeal to the public to provide any information on the culprits to assist the police investigation,” the statement added.
