The Eastern Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended Agbesi Benjamin from his position as the Constituency Communication Officer for the Oda Constituency.
This suspension is a result of allegations of misconduct, which include an audio recording in which Agbesi Benjamin allegedly discouraged a new party convert from joining the NDC.
The REC characterised the party as having become “the most attractive political party in Africa in recent times”, which was cited in the audio as a reason for dissuading the new member.
During a virtual meeting held on January 21, 2026, the REC resolved to suspend Agbesi Benjamin from his role, effective immediately. The issue has been forwarded to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and resolution.
Agbesi Benjamin has been instructed to return any party property in his possession to the Constituency Secretary.
The Disciplinary Committee will summon him for a hearing, and he has been encouraged to attend so that the committee can present its report and recommendations to the REC.
The suspension letter was signed by Jamal Konneh, Eastern Regional Secretary, and was also sent to the General Secretary, REC, Constituency Chairman, and Regional Disciplinary Committee Chairman.
