Voting has finally commenced in the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) youth and women organisers’ elections after hours of delay.

The voting process is said to have delayed due to a misunderstanding over the delegates list for the election.

Four persons were reportedly injured after sustaining gunshot wounds as a result of the scuffle.

About 1,375 delegates from all 275 constituencies across the country are gathered at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to elect the party’s National Women Organiser, Youth Organiser and their deputies.

Those elected will steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The contests for the top positions are two-horse races between the incumbents and their sole contenders.

The incumbent National Women Organiser, Dr Hanna Louisa Bisiw, is being challenged by a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suhum, Margaret Ansei.

The incumbent Youth Organiser, George Opare Addo, would have to battle it out with the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the NDC, Brogya Genfi.

The Deputy Women Organiser position has four aspirants — Abigail Akwabea Elorm Mensah, Felicia Dzifa Tegah, Jessie Adams and Hajia Alijata Sulemana.

For the position of deputy youth organiser, there are 10 contestants.

They are Osman Abdulai Ayariga, Ruth Dela Seddoh, Bright Nudokpo Honu, Sulemana Abdul Karim and Mohammed Abubakari Sadiq Gombilla.

The rest are Kabiru Ahmed, Eric Dadson, Pendilock Owusu Asare, Obed Opintan and Jude Sekley.
