MoH set to release allowances of rotational nurses
The Ministry of Health is in advanced talks with the Ministry of Finance to disburse allowances for members of the Rotational Nurses and Midwifery Association (RNMA).
This follows a 14-day ultimatum the association issued to the government over unpaid allowances.
According to the leader of the association, GH₵12,000 in allowances remain unpaid for the July batch of their members.
In a statement dated January 30, 2024, the RNMA said it had sent several letters to the Ministry of Health that have gone unanswered.
Addressing the issue, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, Isaac Baah Offei, revealed that they are making plans to initiate payments.
“The Ministry is engaging the Ministry of Finance for the release of funds so we will be able to pay them. As we said earlier, the issue has to do with clearance that we have to get from the Ministry of Finance before we are able to effect payment to them. So until that is done, it is going to be difficult for the Ministry of Health to say that they are paying the rotational nurses,” he said.
However, Mr Offei refused to disclose the exact timeline for the negotiations, only suggesting that it would be concluded soon.
“We are very hopeful, and we believe that a lot of work has gone in, a lot of negotiations have gone on, and we expect to deal with it as soon as possible.”
