Mobile money transactions hit GH¢3.6 trillion in 10 months

The total value of mobile money transactions in Ghana reached GH¢3.6 trillion during the first ten months of 2025, ending in October.

This data comes from the latest Economic and Financial Data released by the Bank of Ghana following last week’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting.

The figure reflects transactions reported by telecom operators between January and October 2025.

The report shows strong month-on-month growth, with September transactions at GH¢406 billion, rising to GH¢436 billion in October.

By comparison, the total for the same period in 2024 was GH¢2.368 trillion, and in 2023 it was GH¢1.367 trillion, highlighting a significant year-on-year increase.

Industry experts attribute this growth to a rising number of people using mobile money for payments, efforts by the Bank of Ghana and commercial banks to promote a cashless economy, and wider acceptance of mobile money by businesses and institutions.

As of October 2025, there were 79.1 million registered mobile money accounts, with 25.3 million active accounts, supported by 949,000 registered agents.

Total transactions for the period reached 893 million, including GH¢40 billion transferred across platforms under mobile money interoperability.
