Minority MPs march to Police Headquarters over Ablekuma North collation

The minority caucus in Parliament, together with Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, NPP’s 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North, walked to Police Headquarters in Accra today, June 4, 2025, to submit a petition demanding full security for the collation of results in the constituency.

This comes a few weeks after the Ghana Police Service assured the Minority and Majority caucuses of their readiness to provide security for the collation of the Ablekuma North constituency 2024 parliamentary election results.

The police gave the assurance at a press conference held in Accra on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

The Director of Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Grace Ansah-Akrofi, stated that the police are always ready to provide security for elections, and that it was up to the Electoral Commission (EC) to finalise security arrangements with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the collation process.

Despite this assurance, the police and the EC have failed to collate the results, prompting the Minority to present a new petition today, reminding the law enforcement agency of the outstanding collation.

Currently, Ablekuma North in the Greater Accra region remains the only constituency without parliamentary representation out of Ghana’s 276 constituencies, due to unresolved disputes from the 2024 election.

Meanwhile, Ewurabena Aubyn, the parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress, and Akua Afriyie have erected billboards claiming victory, even though the Electoral Commission (EC) has yet to declare the final results of the parliamentary election.
