The Minority in Parliament has called for the immediate removal of the Director General and Board Chairman of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), accusing them of failing to properly oversee the inclusion of “gender identity” content in a Senior High School teacher manual.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, January 15, 2026, the MP for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, said NaCCA’s leadership had violated public trust by allowing the material to appear in approved teaching resources.

“We are calling for the immediate dismissal of the Director General and the Board Chairperson of NaCCA for their failure in oversight and the breach of public trust,” he stated.

The call follows claims by the MP for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, who alleged that the government was promoting an LGBTQ agenda through teacher manuals and other learning materials used in schools.

Amid the public backlash, NaCCA withdrew the printed copies of the Year Two Physical Education and Health (Elective) Teacher Manual, admitting that parts of the content did not reflect Ghanaian culture, values, and social norms.

NaCCA has since issued a revised version of the manual, which it says aligns with national values and presents a biological understanding of the topic.

The controversy has widened the national conversation on curriculum oversight, accountability, and NaCCA’s responsibility to ensure that educational materials respect societal values while meeting acceptable educational standards.
